Calgary Tree Removal Information

All the information that you will need for your Calgary tree removal project.

Trees on Private Property

According to The City of Calgary it is your responsibility to maintain and care for the trees, shrubs and hedges within your property line.

In general it is up to the property owner to make sure that the vegetation within your property line does not at all encroach on public sidewalks and streets.

Corner lots have some extra regulations to follow the proper tree, shrub and hedge limitations. The City of Calgary has stated in a traffic bylaw that on the corner of your lot with intersecting laneways, nothing can be over 750mm(75cm) within the corner of the lot to allow for proper visibility for vehicles through the corners.

Trees on Public Property

The City of Calgary has a specific tree protection bylaw in place to govern who and how the trees on public property within the city are to be maintained.

Unless you are given permission from the city you are unable to do the following to any vegetation on city land:

  • Cut, remove, move or prune any city tree, shrub or hedge.
  • Attach anything to a tree, including breaking any bark by any means.
  • Liquids of any kind except water cannot be sprayed on the trees.
  • No hanging of anything including extension cords on city trees.
  • If you have any questions, the city is always available to help at 311 within the city or 403-268-CITY (2489) from outside the city.
If you have a complaint to place about public vegetation these numbers will help to serve that as well.
